While on the Acropolis Hill, we will visit the new Athens Acropolis Museum and the ancient archaeological masterpieces: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the most majestic monument of antiquity, the Parthenon.
Return to our hotel in early afternoon. Participants have the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 3: After breakfast, we set off on a 4-day tour, whichoffers you a glimpse of Greece through the centuries, from the Prehistoric Era and the Classical Period, through the Roman and Byzantine Empires and the Crusades and all the way to the Modern Times. We depart from Athens and travel along the coastal road, stopping for a short time at the Corinth Canal (Isthmos). Next stop is at the famous Theater of Epidaurus, then on to visit Nafplion and Mycenae, where we will tour the magnificent archaeological site. Departure for Olympia, travelling through the prefecture of Arcadia – the home of Pan and the Nymphs - and the towns of Tripoli and Megalopoli. Dinner and overnight stay in Olympia, the original site of the Olympic Games.
Day 4: After breakfast, we depart for Ancient Olympia, where we will visit the Temple of Zeus, the ancient stadium and the superb archaeological museum. From Ancient Olympia, we travel across the plains of Elia and Achaia, crossing the spectacular bridge that connects Rio and Antirrio. Our tour takes us through the towns of Nafpaktos and Itea, to our final destination of the day, Delphi, for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: After breakfast, we visit the ancient site and the Archaeological Museum of Delphi and then depart for Kalambaka, the town located below the dramatic rocks of Meteora and their historical monasteries. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel in Kalambaka.
Day 6: Today we visit Meteora. Situated on top of gigantic boulders, like they are suspended in mid-air, are beautiful monasteries, where you can admire exquisite religious treasures and Byzantine works of art. From there, we begin our return to Athens, via the towns of Trikala, Lamia, Thermopylae, where we will make a short stop at the Monument of Leonidas. Arrival in Athens in early evening. Overnight stay.
Day 7: After breakfast, we set off on our one-day cruise to the Saronic Islands. Our ship sails at 08:15 in the morning. The order in which we visit the islands is either Poros -Hydra- Aegina or Aegina-Poros-Hydra. Poros, the smallest of the three islands we are visiting, is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strait, providing us with a beautiful view of the eastern coast of the Peloponnese. Our visit to Poros lasts approximately 50 minutes. Our next stop is Hydra, which is an extremely picturesque island, with its capital town built up the hill in an amphitheatric manner. The island’s architecture is lovely, with stone-brick houses and mansions scattered in the narrow stone-paved alleyways, which you can explore only by donkey or on foot. Swimming on Hydra Island is a wonderful experience, as the waters are crystal-clear and refreshing. Our stay on Hydra lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The last island on our one-day cruise itinerary is Aegina, which is the largest of the three islands and perhaps the most interesting from a historical point of view. After spending a short while on Aegina Island, we depart for Piraeus Port. Transfer to your hotel in Athens. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 8: Breakfast. Transfer to Athens Airport for flight back home. End of our 8-day Greece Vacation Package. |
